Disruptive innovation for radical CO2 reductions

24.10.2016 @ 15:00 - 17:00

Danish Shipowners’ Association, Danish Maritime,Blue INNOship, Green Ship of the Future and Carbon War Room invite you to join us for a panel discussion on shipping’s low carbon future at Danish Maritime Days.

In December 2015, shipping was excluded from the international climate agreement to limit temperature rise to well below two degrees Celsius. Unchecked by such regulation, shipping’s emissions are due to increase significantly over the next decade. This poses a major challenge for the industry in light of which this event will discuss what the industry needs to move it towards a future that is compliant with the ambitions of the UNFCCC Paris Agreement.

The event will give an overview of where the industry is now in terms of its greenhouse gas emissions and where it is projected to head without efforts to curb these emissions. It will then outline the measures that can be taken now to move towards this low carbon future by highlighting the possibilities for energy efficiency retrofits.

Despite the importance of these measures, it will be evident that they are insufficient for the industry to effectively decarbonise. As such, the event will finally go on to discuss the more radical, long term measures that the industry will need to take to ensure that its companies are still in business in 20-30 years’ time.

Confirmed speakers:
• Henrik Madsen, Former CEO, DNV GL
• Dr. Karsten Liebing, Managing Partner, Hammonia Reederei
• Alisdair Pettigrew, Senior Advisor, Carbon War Room
• Kjartan Ross, Business Development Manager, MAN Diesel and Turbo
